WORK AT HOME SCAMS

No one wants to be the subject of a scam especially those who have left the traditional workforce in favor of at home work. WAHCheck exists to help you research existing work at home opportunities as well as providing some tips on what to look for in both legitimate and less than genuine offers.

On this page you will find links to a variety of articles dealing with specific scams to avoid. You will also find tips on what to look for in an authentic offer.

It can be easy to sign up for a potential work at home job without ever conducing any research into the integrity of the company and their offer. You see many companies are hoping you will sign up to work without reading the fine print. What's interesting is that these same companies don't seem especially interested in your skills.

It is not uncommon in bogus work at home jobs to ease into a position with no personal obstacles. If this seems to be the case you might want to slow down and research the company before moving any further.

Think about when you were hired at your last traditional job. Was there an application and interview process? In most cases the answer is yes. Yet, in many work at home jobs they don't ask for your resume, they don't seem to need references and they aren't even especially concerned about your skill level.

In some cases the reason for the company's lack of interest has to do with the fine print very few ever take the time to read. Some companies don't care about your background because they will be requiring you to buy the needed elements for the business opportunity they are offering. Even if you fail they will not be out any money because you will have paid startup fees. Of course unless you read the fine print you may not be aware that this is why they don't seem to care about your business background. Many of these companies are legitimate, but they require you to pay for the privilege of working for them. If that's a problem for you turn away before passing on any credit card information.

Some businesses may also be inclined to disregard your experience because they plan to train you. In some cases training a new person for a job is easier than retraining an individual who has already had significant experience in a particular field.

In both cases it is important to understand that just because it is standard procedure for businesses to ask for data related to your skills, education and interests that doesn't mean they are automatically scams. There may be legitimate reasons for the lack of interest, but once again it will be research that helps you understand the potential legitimacy of the offer.

You'll notice I used potential, because I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt, but along with my initial generosity in spirit comes a desire to learn more and leap less.

SPOTTING A SCAM:

Now, it is really not that difficult to spot a Scam. When applying for a work at home job, most companies would ask for the following info:

  • Resume
  • Past experience
  • References
  • Salary requirements
  • History, etc.

  • If a "work at home company" does not ask for these things, be on guard! It doesn't necessarily mean it's a scam! A lot of times when a company does not ask for these things, you're most likely looking at a home based business opportunity. In these cases, they probably plan on training you and they don't need any of this information. But it also means you'll probably have to pay a fee because no business can be started without funds. This doesn't mean a company is a scam!

But not every home based business opportunity or even traditional companies hiring at home employees are legitimate! This page will help you detect scams!
